Newsletter 3rd December 2021

Friday, 3 December 2021

Hello everyone

I hope you are all ok and managing to stay wrapped up warm – it’s been a cold week here at Spring Bank! Just a reminder that if for any reason the school will be closed due to adverse weather conditions parents will be informed by text and email by

There are a few things from me this week and a message from our lovely PTA too.

Face coverings in school:

Following guidance from the local authority in response to the new Covid 19 variant Omicron we are asking all visitors, parents, families to the school to wear a face covering when in school. If you don’t have one on you will be asked to wear one (unless exempt). There will be a box of face coverings in reception if you have forgotten to bring one with you.

This will help to keep our school community safe in the run up to Christmas and your support and understanding with this will be very appreciated by us all.

Attendance and punctuality:

This week we 58 late arrivals to school (across 5 days and after the doors close at just after 9.00am) and this equates to 140 minutes (2 hours and 10 minutes) of lost learning throughout the school. Punctuality continues to be an issue and I cannot stress again the importance of children arriving to school on time and ready to learn. If you are struggling with getting your child/ren in to school on time please do come and talk to us as we may be able to offer some help and support. I will be sending out minutes late reports to all families over a certain threshold by the end of this term. Continued lates may also result in a referral to the Attendance and Welfare Panel run by Leeds City Council.

As a school we aim for our attendance to be over 96.5% each week. As you can see we are well below that for this week with only three classes above 90% attendance.

Whole school attendance: 90.79%

Reception – 89.58%

Year 1 – 85.47%

Year 2 – 96.84%

Year 3 – 86.68%

Year 4 – 89.36%

Year 5 – 93.98%

Year 6 – 93.75%

A big well done to Year 2 with 96.84% who will have attendance Ted for next week

School car park:

We still have a number of children who are scooting/riding very quickly into the school car park. Could they please dismount their bike or scooter on entering the car park as there may be times when a car is arriving or leaving. This is to help keep them safe on a busy school site.

Nits and Head lice

We have a number of classes in school where there are now cases of either nits or head lice. Please check your childs’ hair very thoroughly and ensure that if nits or head lice are found that these are treated before coming to school. We are trying very hard to stop this spreading further. Hair should also be tied back to help stop the spread. Please follow the link below for further advice on how to treat nits and headlice. I really don’t want to get to the position where we need to send children home who haven’t had them treated.

Christmas performances and Christmas lunch:

Please refer to the email that I sent out yesterday with information about timings, number of guests, face coverings etc. We are very much looking forward to sharing these with you. We would ask that parents/family members undertake a lateral flow test on the day of the performance that you are attending to help us prevent any potential infections. This would be massively appreciated by all the staff at the school.

The school Christmas lunch will be up on ParentMail on Monday 7th December for you to order and pay for. The lunch is on Wednesday 15th December 2021. Any questions about this please contact the school office.
