Newsletter 1st October 2021

I hope everyone has had a good week? The weather has definitely turned towards Autumn with the rain the evening starting to draw in now. On that note please do remember to send your children in with a coat as we do go outside in most weathers!
Appointments for these will be going live on Monday at 5.00pm. These are going to be held in person and we will ask parents to follow the instructions set out below:
· Please arrive on time for your appointment (don’t arrive too early as if it is raining there won’t be anywhere indoors to shelter);
· Please use the external classroom doors to access your appointment as these will take place in the classrooms rather that the school hall;
· The appointment will last for 10 minutes and teachers will tell parents when the 10 minutes is up so that we don’t create a backlog;
· Please wear a face covering when you come into school for the appointment;
· There won’t be the opportunity to look at books before the appointment as we don’t have the indoor space to provide this.
Many thanks for your understanding and support with this.
Please can I remind parents that the only drink in children’s packed lunches should be water. We are having large numbers of children bringing in fruit shoots and juice cartons or flavoured waters. These aren’t allowed and will be sent home with the child. I have also attached to this email a website link about healthy packed lunches as we would always advise that these are balanced to ensure that children are getting all the vitamins and nutrients that they need to help them learn and feel energised for the afternoon.
Also we are a NUT FREE SCHOOL. We are still seeing some cases of products in school that may contain nuts or traces of nuts. We cannot have these in school as we have children with severe nut allergies in school.
If you haven’t already please do respond to the parent survey about the proposal to develop our outdoor areas in school. This is a really exciting opportunity to provide our children with even more areas in which to learn. The link is attached below:
All the lost property that was left over the summer has now been removed from school. If your child loses something then please do check the box outside the main school entrance as this is our lost property box (a bit more protected from the elements!)
We are delighted that our wonderful school library is now open again to the children in school. Children will be able to have one book out a time (but they can keep it for as long as it takes them to read it!) The timetable for the library is below:
Monday – Year 1
Tuesday Year 5 and 6
Wednesday Year 4
I know that the children have really enjoyed accessing the library again and are very ably helped by our super organised Year 6 librarians.
I just wanted to let you know that I am going to be starting a homework club on.........lunchtime. This will take place once a week for children who have been unable to complete their guided reading homework at home (we do appreciate that there are circumstances that sometimes make this tricky.) We feel as a school, very strongly that the guided reading homework that is set for all children in KS2 is so important for their progress in reading. When their homework isn't completed this then sets them on the back foot for their next guided reading session in school. The club will be a nice environment for them to come and complete this (either before or after they've eaten) and I will be on hand to give them any support and help that they may need. Teachers will send the children to me if their homework hasn't been completed in order for them to be able to follow on in the next guided reading session. If there is any further information that you would like please don't hesitate to get in touch with me.
I think that’s it for this week. As ever many thanks for all your ongoing support and understanding as we get back to a more ‘normal’ way of doing things.
I hope you all have a very lovely weekend,
