I hope this finds you all well and that you haven’t been to advesely impacted on by the inclement weather we are having at the moment.

Covid 19:

We haven’t had any new confirmed cases this week which is great news. If you can please do check for symptoms/undertake a lateral flow test before your child/ren return to school after half term as this will really help us to keep the rates coming down in school.

If you are visiting the school for any reason please continue to wear a face covering in school as whilst infections seem to be slowing in school they are still very high in the Headingley area. You cooperation with this is greatly appreciated.

Attendance and punctuality:

Whole school attendance this week: 91.7%

Reception: 88.54%

Year 1: 85.06%

Year 2: 92.31%

Year 3: 88.55%

Year 4: 96.77%

Year 5: 96.35%

Year 6: 93.27%

We are still having to chase some families for reasons for absence when their child/ren is not in school. Please ensure that you call school and leave a voice message or a message on parentmail if your child is going to be absent from school. This is vitally important so that we know where your child is. If we don’t hear from families by midday then we will conduct a home visit to ensure that they are ok – this is following our safeguarding procedures. Our office staff and learning mentor also spend a lot of their time having to repeat call families when a child hasn’t arrived at school.

Minutes late this week:

Total 434 minutes late (7 hours 14 minutes) this equates to over a whole day of lost learning for a relatively small amount of children.

After half term I will be sending out minutes late reports to parents. If your child arrives after 9.15am they are classed as a U (late after the register has closed) this also impacts on their attendance. I will be referring some families to the attendance and welfare panel after half term for persistent lateness after the register has closed. Please do arrive punctually for school at 9.00am.

I cannot stress enough the importance of arriving to school on time. Children are missing key learning inputs and also disrupting classes by arriving so late to school. Please do work with us to improve punctuality for ALL our children at Spring Bank.

I have sent out a form to all parents at school with some questions about after school clubs. Please do take the time to complete this so that we can collate this information and then hopefully be able to bring some more clubs to school.
