Newsletter 11th February 2022

Friday, 11 February 2022

I hope everyone is doing ok. We’ve only a week left before we break up for half term and the children have done brilliantly since we’ve been back.

Go Bright for Muscular Dystrophy

Thank you so much to all our brilliant families and children who have contributed to this fabulous charity. As a school this year we have raised £389.23 which is just amazing! Please have a look at our Twitter feed for a photo of our winning children in their brightest outfits!

Covid 19:

We have had two new confirmed cases this week which hopefully means infection rates are really slowing down now at school. We would ask that you continue to be vigilant and if in any doubt seek a test.

If you are visiting the school for any reason please continue to wear a face covering in school as whilst infections seem to be slowing in school they are still very high in the Headingley area. You cooperation with this is greatly appreciated.

Attendance and punctuality:

Whole school attendance this week: 90.48%

Reception: 93.33%

Year 1: 79.72%

Year 2: 91.54%

Year 3: 92.33%

Year 4: 90.63%

Year 5: 94.06%

Year 6: 91.92%

We are still having to chase some families for reasons for absence when their child/ren is not in school. Please ensure that you call school and leave a voice message or a message on parentmail if your child is going to be absent from school. This is vitally important so that we know where your child is. If we don’t hear from families by midday then we will conduct a home visit to ensure that they are ok – this is following our safeguarding procedures. Our office staff and learning mentor also spend a lot of their time having to repeat call families when a child hasn’t arrived at school.

Minutes late this week:

Total 279 minutes (4 hours 39 minutes)

Whilst we have had fewer children late this week (which is great) this is still a lot of lost learning for a smaller number of children. Please do arrive punctually for school at 9.00am. From Monday 14th February I will be reinstating the whistle at 9.00am.

SEND Reviews:

These are taking place next week (Year 6 and Year 2 will be rearranged to after half term) please check your time and date if this applies to you.

Healthy packed lunches and snacks:

Please ensure that if your child brings in a packed lunch that this is balanced and healthy (there is a link below for advice about healthy packed lunches). Children should also not be bringing in and eating sweets during the day as this is not part of our healthy schools approach and sweets are not allowed at any point during the day (this includes cough sweets). Sweets are sometimes given out at the end of the day for birthdays but these must be eaten when the child/ren are with their parents and consent has been given, not when they are still on the school grounds. Many thanks for your cooperation with this.

We are very aware of the desire for more clubs in school. We are in the process of looking at how this can be done with external providers. However this will need to be chargeable to parents in order for us to be able to facilitate this. I will be sending out a form next week asking for parent views on costing of clubs and the range of clubs that parents would like to see.

I think that is it for this week. I hope you all manage to have an enjoyable weekend whatever you have planned.

Take care

Sarah xxx
