Design Technology

Children are involved in Design and Technology activities throughout their time at Spring Bank.

They acquire and develop their design technology skills and apply these to situations where they need to design, make and evaluate their own products. Areas covered include:

  • Food technology
  • Structures
  • Textiles
  • Mechanisms
  • Electronical control

Where possible these projects are linked to other curriculum areas such as Science, Literacy, Art or Music.

Children are encouraged to explore a variety of tools and materials (both specialist products and found objects) and to make decisions about how these are used. Through careful evaluation of their work they consider any changes that were made to their original plans and how effective their product is. The school also has links with ICE (Institute of Civil Engineers) and we are able to offer a range of exciting workshops throughout the year for our pupils such as a disaster shelter building workshop in Year 6.
