Spring Bank Primary School

Summer 2 Newsletter

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to the last half term of Year 5. I have outlined key information for this half term, any questions please ask.

This half term, our topic will be ‘Raging Rivers’. Children will learn all about the geography of rivers: key landforms, formation and the location of key world rivers. On Tuesday 9th July, we will be visiting Nell Bank to study the River Wharfe.

In literacy, we will begin by writing speech based on ‘The Hobbit’ using standard and non-standard English. We will then move onto instructions and explanations. In maths, we will be looking at translations and reflections. Science this half term will be on the life cycles of animals. Music will be ukulele with Miss Freitas on Monday afternoons.

This half term’s topic homework will be to research a world river and the communities that live by this river. We will share our homework on Monday 22nd July.

Please continue to support your child with their Guided Reading Homework. It is essential for your child’s progress in reading that this is being completed and that they are up-to-date with the reading. All children will have their homework in the same format this half term, if you have any questions about this please come and see me.

Children’s ongoing homework is to be using TTRockstars, Prodigy and Spelling Shed at home. Please encourage your child to be responsible for their own logins as I have given these out on many occasions. These will be updated regularly with tasks to do. All of the Y5/6 words are on Spelling Shed for your child to practise.

Now that the weather is getting brighter and warmer, PE will be on the outdoor pitch. Please ensure your child has appropriate PE kit in school. PE will be on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.

Any questions, please come and see me I will be happy to help.

Many Thanks

Miss Johnson
