Summer 1 Newsletter

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome back! I hope you have had a lovely break. I have outlined key information for this half term, any questions please ask.

This half term, our topic will be ‘Awesome Egyptians’. Children will learn all about Ancient Egypt, their discoveries, what life was like and what we can learn from Ancient Egypt. On Tuesday 7th May, children will enjoy a trip to Leeds City Museum for an Ancient Egypt workshop. In art, children will be making their own death masks.

In literacy, we will begin by writing balanced arguments on a topic of your child’s choice. We will then move onto looking at C.S Lewis’ ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. In maths, we will be looking at fractions, decimals and percentages. Science this half term will be on forces. Music will be ukulele with Miss Freitas on Monday afternoons.

This half term’s topic homework will be to research an interesting discovery about Ancient Egypt. There have been articles on the news recently about excavations of ancient tombs and all the amazing artefacts in there. We will share our homework in the final week of this half term.

Please continue to support your child with their Guided Reading Homework. It is essential for your child’s progress in reading that this is being completed and that they are up-to-date with the reading. All children will have their homework in the same format this half term, if you have any questions about this please come and see me.

Children’s ongoing homework is to be using TTRockstars, Prodigy and Spelling Shed at home. Please encourage your child to be responsible for their own logins as I have given these out on many occasions. These will be updated regularly with tasks to do. All of the Y5/6 words are on Spelling Shed for your child to practise.

Now that the weather is getting brighter and warmer, PE will be on the outdoor pitch. Please ensure your child has appropriate PE kit in school. PE will be on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. We are very lucky to have two rugby sessions from Leeds Rhinos this half term which I’m sure the children will enjoy!

Last half term we said goodbye to Mr Tooley and we wish him luck in his new job. For the summer term, we are delighted to welcome Mr Cohen who will be supporting in Y5.

Any questions, please come and see me I will be happy to help.

Many Thanks

Miss Johnson
