Science
Within Science at Spring Bank we aim to excite children’s curiosity about phenomena and events in the world through investigation and enquiry.
There are 4 key areas within the Science curriculum:
- Scientific enquiry
- Life processes and living things
- Materials and their properties
- Physical processes
These roughly translate into the traditional Biology, Chemistry and Physics; with the first area running throughout.
Scientific enquiry helps children to gain understanding of how scientific ideas can be investigated and explained and how this relates to their learning and the world around them.
Life processes and living things develops the children’s knowledge and understanding of life around them – human, animal and plant.
Materials and their properties includes investigating what the things around them are made of and why, along with how they can be changed physically and chemically.
Physical processes allow the children to investigate forces, electricity, light, sound and the solar system.
In addition to this Spring Bank celebrates all these areas annually within our Science and Nature week.
